Flourish Pilipinas Baking Competition Mechanics & Details

Are you a professional baker or perhaps a baking enthusiast? You might want to join Flourish Pilipinas!

The Universal Robina Corporation - Flour Division and the Department of Tourism recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement supporting the Food Tourism in the Philippines and the partnership produced a wonderful campaign called "Flourish Pilipinas: Bake it Fun in the Philippines," recognizing flour-based delicacies - both traditional and bold innovations to help promote tourism in the Philippines. As we all know, part of traveling is savoring the many flavors one place has to offer, and although rice is a staple in our country, we still have so many to offer. Just recently, I was able to taste Dinuguan and Pinakbet Pizza as well as Vigan Longganisa Quesadilla, which all use flour while still promoting our traditional dishes.

Flourish Pilipinas has two main projects: Baking Competition and Baking Academy.

Baking Competition
There are three main categories -
The Globe Award, which is open to professional pastry chefs, bakery and bakeshop owners, as well as pastry/baking instructors who will produce the best recipe using hard flour (URC Globe or Blend 100 Flour).

The Sampaguita Award, which is likewise open to professionals who will produce the best recipe using soft flour (URC Sampaguita Flour).

The Daisy Award, which is open to students enrolled in courses for hotel and restaurant management, food technology or the culinary and pastry arts. This aims to find the best recipes using cake flour (URC Daisy Flour).

To join, contestants must fill out an entry form, which can be accessed from the Flourish Pilipinas Facebook Page. This form can also be downloaded from the URC Website. Entries can be submitted to Flourish Pilipinas Facebook Page or can be e-mailed to Kayla Andrea (operations@dtc.com.ph). Do take note that all recipes submitted will become properties of Universal Robina Corporation - Flour Division.

Deadline for submission of entries are on: April 30, 2013 for GMA and Luzon and May 31, 2013 for Cebu and Davao. If your recipe gets chosen, you must agree to participate in a bake-off, which will happen on: June 15 (GMA), July 6 (Baguio), July 27 (Cebu), and August 10 (Davao). Prizes are as follows:  P10,000 in cash, Kitchen Aid Mixers and other prizes from sponsors and their entries will be featured in the 2014 Calendar of URC.

The Baking Academy on the other hand is a series of lectures and presentations conducted by select pastry chefs, bakery owners, and students, which will also take place during the bake off.

Jenn, the Foodie

I come from a family who loves cooking and eating. I never had any formal training in cooking and that I taught myself how to cook based on the handed down recipes, but I could say that I can cook good food. In 2008, I started documenting my food trips for my travel blog, and since I have quite enough to start a food blog, might as well put all those food trips in one location. Thus, a food blog is born - thanks to the new Friendster Blogs. However, due to several problems, I was left with no choice but to pack bags again and move here instead. Here's the permanent address, promise! Enough talk, let the food trippin' begin! {Know More About Me}
