Fettucini with a Twist

It feels so great to be back doing LaPiS again! I miss doing this meme! Well, lack of food topics to discuss made me neglect this blog early this year, but I am seriously making a comeback. This week's theme is corn, and this was the first thing that came to mind...

1/365 - Fettuccini with a Twist

This pasta was served by my friend Ecko's mom when we went over for a New Year's movie marathon. It was a very interesting dish because it was the first time I ate corn and sprinkled toasted garlic bits on my pasta. I found it a great way to serve and eat pasta, so I recreated the dish based on the recipe given to me by Ecko's mom.

You can check the recipe HERE.

Tomatoes

stuffed tomato

LaPiS goes Iron Chef, wherein each week, there will be a featured ingredient. For this week, it's the tomatoes. Vegetable or not, fruit or not, I think all will agree that tomatoes do taste good. =)

The above picture (blurred, yes) was taken in 2008, when my siblings and I attended QC Na! Kulinarya, Talento, atbp. One of the events for the festivity was a cook off between professional chefs. In a way, it was kinda like Iron Chef - having to use some particular ingredients in their dishes - but, the cook off wasn't shown to public - they just served the dishes and the judges would roam around the table to taste the dishes.

Free Treat

This one, also taken in 2008, was part of the "extra treats" at Italianni's. That time, they launched their "Extra! Extra!" promo, wherein they give something to diners - may it be extra dessert, extra appetizers, or extra drinks. I was privileged to be part of the group of foodie bloggers who got to attend the launch of the promo. I forgot what this dish was called, but paired with the crunchy bread with chopped mushrooms, it tasted great.

Strawberry Super Shake

Strawberry Super Shake

And so I am back once again after some absence from LaPiS.

The theme this week is strawberry. Last Monday, when we docked in Manila from a 14-hour ferry trip from Coron, Palawan, the six of us decided to have snacks first. Our feet took us to Shakey's, and just a way of comforting myself, I had their strawberry super shake. It tasted like melted strawberry ice cream - very rich, heavenly, and comforting. Dianne and I both had this as our drink, Kei had the coffee flavored one, and Lei had the chocolate.

Hotdogs

Hotdogs

Last weekend, after coming home from my short trip in Divine Mercy Shrine, I attended a children's party. It's the birthday of 'te Indang, our neighbor. She celebrated her 39th birthday on 02 September, but they had the celebration 30 August. It was a children's party, yes... because of an accident when she was still a baby, her mind is as if she's only 7 years old. Well, she's not really that immature - she can do a lot of things adults can do, there were just some instances that you might not be able to understand her way of reasoning.

Anyway, since it's a children's party and most of the guests were kids, they prepared all sorts of foods that would appeal to kids - including this one: hotdog on stick with marshmallow. Actually it's more of a hotdog with marshmallow on a toothpick, hehehe... It's cute to see these small hotdog balls - I didn't know there was a new kind of hotdog, last thing I saw were the cocktails, which was a smaller version of the regular hotdog.

But this was a big hit in the party. I, too, loved it in the sense that I can eat it in one bite (taking out the toothpick first, of course)... and it was just then that I realized that hotdogs and marshmallows tasted good when eaten together. One salty, the other sweet. Delicious!

Sprinkled with Cheese

Homemade Pizza

Once, my brother cooked pizza using the turbo broiler. I already posted a picture of it sometime ago, this was another shot from the set. I am not really into cheese, but when it comes to pizza, I love mine with lots of it!

Sadly, we can't just do that because our mom might scold us for grating all the cheese. =) Hopefully, the next time there's a homemade pizza here, it will be smothered (not just sprinkled) with cheese. And if it's not much to ask, I really am hoping it'll be mozzarella cheese, and not just the ordinary quick melt cheddar cheese like the one used here.

Let's Chill!

Starbucks

Different location, different companion, different drink... same strawberry belgian waffle. =)

Last July, I met up with an old friend at SM Fairview, and since he and I needed to talk things, and he needed to show me some files from his laptop, we decided to hang out and "chill" at Starbucks. My last eat out at Starbucks (Metrowalk) wasn't that pleasant - because I ordered a drink I later found out didn't taste good (my fault). So, this time, I stuck with my favorite, the mocha frap.

It was a very great comeback to Starbucks. But, it will seriously take a long time before I'd go back. Maybe another three months.

Colette's Buco Pie

Buco Pie

This image has been in my files since last year. I intend to post this for the longest time, but it had just gone forgotten... until now. This picture's actually old already that I forgot the story behind this - all I can remember was that sister brought this home from Laguna (where else).

So many varieties of buco pie coming from Laguna, but the one I loved the most was Colette's. Their buco pie filling is so creamy and it had lots of buco - really worth it! People mentioned that there's a buco pie that is much more delicious than Colette's, but when I tasted it, I still vote for Colette's.

Jenn, the Foodie

I come from a family who loves cooking and eating. I never had any formal training in cooking and that I taught myself how to cook based on the handed down recipes, but I could say that I can cook good food. In 2008, I started documenting my food trips for my travel blog, and since I have quite enough to start a food blog, might as well put all those food trips in one location. Thus, a food blog is born - thanks to the new Friendster Blogs. However, due to several problems, I was left with no choice but to pack bags again and move here instead. Here's the permanent address, promise! Enough talk, let the food trippin' begin! {Know More About Me}
