Sinarabasab

Sinarabasab

The family just stayed at home during the weekend, so my food weekend snapshot was just something cooked at home.

Last Thursday or Friday, one of my neighbors were doing some barbecuing, and although we can't see them, the smoke of their food was certainly all over the place - making us crave for anything grilled. On Saturday, brother grilled some pork for us to feast on.

Sinarabasab is how the Ilokano (people living in the northwest part of the country) called their grilled pork. A slab of pork - usually the pork chops or the belly strips - were grilled and cut up into bite pieces, served with chopped onions, tomatoes, and seasoned with condiments of choice . Brother used fermented anchovy paste to season this.

Thanks for the hearty lunch, brother!

We Are One!

Wow.. time really did fly so fast! I really cannot recall when I first joined LaPis, as I had a little struggle where to put my food blog, but I am happy to have been part of this food blog meme. Despite my many absences, I am glad that I am "present" as the meme turns one.

And since it's LaPiS' 1st anniversary, the foods for this day would be about firsts. I had quite a difficult time choosing what to share as I think most of my "first" foods were already shared, but as I check my files and the archive of my blog, I still haven't shared this one..

Gelatin

Lunch

Enchanted Kingdom has been giving people a real great time for 12 years now, but last May 2009 was the first time I set foot in the place! And if not for another blogger who put up his schedule in his blog, I would have never been part of the event EK put up for 50 bloggers.

For lunch, they served us a fried chicken meal and a gelatin with whipped cream and chocolate. The food taste delicious, but "bitin." Hehehe... anyway after eating, we took part of the Magikalympics - which our team won. Yey!

Mocha Ice Cream Cake

Before the Magikalympics started, one of the park's staffs told we should taste their ice cream cake, so before the vans arrive to pick us all up, we went to the shop to taste their ice cream cake. However, there was only one slice left, so I just took the liberty to take pictures of the cake. I was able to taste it, and it was really good.

Hope I could get back to EK!

Pizza and More

Let's go Italian this week!

Facade

Household Team

Dining Area

Last February, my good friend Andre treated us to dinner in Shakey's SM Fairview. It was her birthday, and although she's a product of the recession, she was still kind enough to treat us to dinner. Our first fellowship as a household in Singles for Christ was supposed to be here, but we decided to eat at a different pizza house, so for this time, we chose to be here.

Spaghetti

Chick n Chips

Pizza

We had the "Bunch O' Lunch" consisting of Spaghetti, Fried Chicken (with Mojo Potatoes), and Pizza. Four people sharing great food mixed with stories and hearty laughs... it was a great night! I rarely eat in Shakey's, so I appreciated the taste of their foods. How I wish we could eat here again.

Hotdogs with Marshmallows

Hotdogs

Last Saturday, I attended the Christian Life Program graduation in Singles for Christ, a Catholic organization I belong to. The theme for the graduation party was "Children's Party," so along with the kiddie costumes, some of the foods were also like those served in a typical Filipino children's party - spaghetti and hotdogs with marshmallows!

Blame It On The A-a-a-alcohol

Sweater

I am not much of a drinker, but I am proud to say that I have a very high alcohol tolerance that some of my friends don't dare anymore to invite me for drinks because I would just end up laughing at them because they were already drunk. I am not a beer drinker, though, I am more of hard drinker. My favorite? The tequila.

This drink, which was called "sweater," was the exclusive drink of Zenses Ne0-Shanghai Cuisine in A. Venue Mall, Makati Ave. I was able to taste it when I was invited for the unveiling of the Playboy Philippines' May Cover. According to Johan, the owner of the bar/restaurant, this drink is a mix of tequila, absinthe, a secret liquor, and that something Zenses is known for: liquid nitrogen. Quite sweet, but it was really delicious. However, true to it's name, after a few minutes of drinking this, a person is expected to sweat as it really warms the body. This drink is some sort of a life saver for me as I was able to stay up for more than 24 hours without really feeling sleepy. I guess it was the absinthe.

Chicken Adobo

I could say I can cook good food, but if there's one dish I am struggling, it has to be this classic Filipino dish - the Adobo. People say it's the easiest foods one can cook because you can just put all the ingredients together and leave it in the stove until it cooks, but my struggle was to get the right balance between the soy sauce and the vinegar. Some say it's 1:1, but I noticed that if I leave the pot longer in the stove it tends to get saltier and saltier. So I put more vinegar into it and it would ruin the whole dish! Sometimes I would end the dish by adding some calamansi juice, just to tame the saltiness.. Pfft!

But, the last time I cooked adobo for the family (not this one in the picture), my mom said that it tasted good despite my claims that it wasn't. I am happy that I am improving, but until that day comes when I can put all the ingredients in the pot, leave it to cook and serve it without doing some adjustments, I could say I still suck in cooking adobo.

This was the last adobo I cooked. Sister said it was quite peppery, but I loved it. Hahaha, love your own, as they say.

Jenn, the Foodie

I come from a family who loves cooking and eating. I never had any formal training in cooking and that I taught myself how to cook based on the handed down recipes, but I could say that I can cook good food. In 2008, I started documenting my food trips for my travel blog, and since I have quite enough to start a food blog, might as well put all those food trips in one location. Thus, a food blog is born - thanks to the new Friendster Blogs. However, due to several problems, I was left with no choice but to pack bags again and move here instead. Here's the permanent address, promise! Enough talk, let the food trippin' begin! {Know More About Me}
