Foodie 365 - Week 3

Comments
Joining food memes and visiting other bloggers' blogs made me see this food meme, which is really interesting enough that I just wanted to join it, too. As much as possible, I want to post just one article here in the blog per day, and since I already have a regular post during Fridays, I decided to join EKat's Friday Potluck meme using my Foodie 365 pictures. My entry will always be a day behind, but I think her food party will always appreciate foods. Here are the foods I fed myself from 15 - 21 January:

Foodie 365 (2011) - 15/365

Foodie 365 > 15/365 - Mixed Veggies with Beef
15 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

The day before, I cooked Beef with Pea Pods, and since I bought a cauliflower, I decided to cook the dish again, this time using the cauliflower and the remaining carrots and green beans in our fridge. I didn't have a hard time cooking this because the beef cousin Mhai gave us was so tender, I cooked this dish in about 10 minutes.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 16/365

Foodie 365 > 16/365 - Pinatisang Pata ng Baboy
16 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

For foreign readers, pata ng baboy means "leg of pork." My sister requested we add this in our market list, and I cooked it in a very simple way. Recipe will be shared in the days to come.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 17/365

Foodie 365 > 17/365 - Gising Gising
17 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

I was being thrifty on this day, so I only bought a bunch of string beans in the market, which was only ten pesos. Our pantry never runs out of instant coconut milk mix (in powder form), so I thought of cooking Gising Gising, a dish that I hoped to cook since late last year. People use different kinds of vegetables for this dish - others use green beans, while some use winged beans, but the very first recipe I saw used string beans, so it was the one I used. I am glad my sister liked it. Like the previous picture, the recipe for this will be shared in the future.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 18/365

Foodie 365 > 18/365 - Grilled Tilapia
18 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

Brother was in charge of the kitchen for this day's dinner, and he decided to grill some tilapia and milk fish. Paired with soup, I just ate a lot that dinner - the tomato salsa brother prepared went really well with the fish.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 19/365

Foodie 365 > 19/365 - Menudo
19 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

For lunch, sister asked me to cook menudo. We actually went in the market late already (around 11:45am), so when we got home I asked her to help me cut up the ingredients. She volunteered to do the carrots and potatoes, and instead of dicing the carrots, she just cut it in thin slices.

Very easy dish to cook - just saute roughly chopped onions, garlic, and tomatoes, and once wilted, add the pork and the seasonings. Put a little water and cover the pot, and when it boils, add the potatoes and tomato sauce. Simmer until the potatoes are cooked halfway, then add the green peas, carrots, and green bell pepper (you can use the red ones, too). Simmer a few more minutes then serve.

There are different ways of cooking this dish - others put liver spread or real liver, others add in some raisins, too, but I think the very basic way of cooking menudo is to use pork, potatoes, carrots, and tomato sauce. FYI, too, when you say menudo it means the ingredients were cut in small slices, so if you want to cook this, just cut your ingredients small. Let the "dice" guide you. :)

Foodie 365 (2011) - 20/365

Foodie 365 > 20/365 - Buttered Shrimps
20 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

Mom bought some shrimps, so I decided to cook this dish. I rarely cook this, so I really appreciated the taste of it. A little accident happened - I bought Sprite at a neighborhood store, and since I can't take home the bottle and they don't have the canned ones, I just asked them to place it in small plastic. While cutting the tip of the plastic, it just burst! Good thing the bowl of shrimps was just in front of me and that it caught enough Sprite so I could carry on with the cooking. Well, I had to change my clothes ASAP as I literally took a Sprite splash, but all things ended well - I was able to cook the dish and the family loved it.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 21/365

Foodie 365 > 21/365 - Pancit Palabok
Little Quiapo - Quezon City
21 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

It was my parents' 33rd wedding anniversary. Even if it was sad that dad is no longer with us, we still celebrated the day - mom even filed a leave of absence from work so we could eat at Little Quiapo, the restaurant where they had their wedding reception. It wasn't the exact same building as the restaurant relocated some 13 years ago, but the one who took our order and served our foods was one of the restaurant staffs who helped during my parents' wedding reception.

Anyway, people from a forum I belong to mentioned this restaurant serves great pancit palabok and halo halo, so we had it as well. True to what they say, it was really good.

Here's my share for the potluck... dig in!

Foodie 365 - Week 2

Comments
Me saying I wasn't inspired last week is an understatement. I can't think of reasons why, the foodie mojo just took a vacation and "he" left me abandoned. This will be short, I need to let my sister use my net book while it still has battery juice.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 08/365

Foodie 365 > 08/365 - Bandi
08 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

I seriously forgot to take a picture of my foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner... so I was so relieved when I realized about my project while eating my dessert. This bandi, believe it or not, were still from the ones I bought in Iloilo. I still haven't opened the pack because there were so many foods here, but am happy to report that as of this writing, we've already consumed it all.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 09/365

Foodie 365 > 09/365 - Steamed Fish

09 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

The family went to eat out to celebrate daddy's birth anniversary. We went to eat at Hap Chan, and this was my choice of food, the steamed fish.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 10/365

Foodie 365 > 10/365 - Steamed Tilapia
10 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

Still craving for steamed fish, I opt to have steamed tilapia for my lunch. It was a very simple food, but I loved it a lot.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 11/365

Foodie 365 > 11/365 - Sinigang na Buto Buto
11 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

My sister and cousin both voted for sinigang na buto buto for lunch, so I prepared a big bowl of it. My favorite will always be the sinigang na liempo (pork belly), but now that I have been trying to be a little healthy, this was a good alternative.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 12/365

Foodie 365 > 12/365 - Ginisang Mais
12 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

We saw a cart of white corn in the market, so we bought some and cooked it for dinner. Mom took home some shrimps, which we added to the dish, but if you want to cook this dish, you can check the recipe HERE.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 13/365

Foodie 365 > 13/365 - Graham Crackers
13 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

My breakfast for this day. Perfect with hot coffee!

Foodie 365 (2011) - 14/365

Foodie 365 > 14/365 - Pesto Macaroni
14 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

When I woke up, I noticed a pot of food in the table, and when I checked it out, it had pesto macaroni inside, which my brother cooked. He prepared this using the McCormick pesto pasta mix we had, and even if this wasn't really made from scratch, it still tasted good.

As you can see, the pictures weren't that good (quite a lot of clutter around)... can anybody teach me how to take good food pictures?

Foodie 365 - Week 1

Comments
Like what I have written in my photo blog, Shutter Happy Moments, one of the three projects I gave myself was the Foodie 365, which is obviously Project 365, but is more focused on taking pictures of foods. Staying at home. P365 is something really difficult for me to do, and since I eat multiple times in a day, I figured picturing the foods that I am about to eat would be able to help me finish a whole cycle of the project (this is my third try and I failed the first two).

Also, one of the things I need to accomplish for this year is to keep a food log - where I jot down every food that enters my mouth. This is supposed to be the first week, but I wasn't able to write down every piece of food I ate, so allow me to waive off the first week; no very specific details, just pictures and a little description for now.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 01/365

Foodie 365 > 01/365 - Macaroni Salad
01 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

First of the year meant so many foods on the dinner table. I have already shared the Sinugba Platter my brother prepared, so I am sharing this - the Macaroni Salad given to us by one of the neighbors. At first taste it was great because it had a lot of dressing, but three or four spoons after you'd already feel the "umay" coming in. This is one of the holiday dishes our family no longer cooks, so having a taste of it was still appreciated.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 02/365

Foodie 365 > 02/365 - Lasagna
02 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

Mom, Sis, and I went to watch two MMFF movies, and since we watched one after the other, it was already about 3PM when the second movie ended. We were all hungry, but when we went to Iceberg's, I decided to go for pasta instead of rice, because I wanted a food that would photograph well. :)

Foodie 365 (2011) - 03/365

Foodie 365 > 03/365 - DaingSiLog
03 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

I decided to take home the parsley garnish on my lasagna and mom's food from yesterday (snigger snigger), and I used it to cook the fried rice. This was actually my brunch, and I cooked the boneless biya fish to go with the salted egg as my viand. The daing was actually a little bland - we really love salt-less dried fish - so the whole brunch wasn't really packed with sodium. :) I dipped my daing in suka pinakurat, and even if I only had a cup of the fried rice, I was really satisfied with my meal.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 04/365

Foodie 365 > 04/365 - Baked Mac and Watermelon Shake
04 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

My sister loves macaroni, so for lunch, I cooked some, but my share of the food I placed in a small leche flan llanera, topped it with bechamel sauce and some cheddar cheese before I placed it in the oven toaster to melt the cheese. As for our drinks, my sister and I decided to make a shake out of the watermelon we had in the fridge. We didn't put in a lot of sugar in the shake, so it was a little bland, but we were fine with that. Less sugar, less guilt.

Foodie 365 (2011) - 05/365

Foodie 365 > 05/365 - Crispy Kangkong
05 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

Ever since I learned how to cook this dish, I always find myself craving for it. When I saw some good looking bunch of kangkong at the nearby market, I went to buy some so I could let my sister taste it, too. For the dipping sauce, I mixed mayonnaise, finely minced garlic, pepper, salt, vinegar and some fresh milk. My sister loved it, and I was a happy cook.

IMG_Foodie 365 (2011) - 06/365

Foodie 365 > 06/365 - Instant Yakisoba
06 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

Another brunch for my sister and I... she requested sunny side up egg and hotdog, and I wanted the instant noodles. She hoped I could cook the Lucky Me! chili pancit canton, but we only had the regular ones, so this was her next choice. The egg, I cooked using the heart mold; I just wanted to be a little cheesy and show my sister that I love her. :)

Foodie 365 (2011) - 07/365

Foodie 365 > 07/365 - Sinigang na Talakitok
07 January 2011
{Canon Powershot SX130is}

Mom took home two big steak cuts of Talakitok, which she asked the fish vendor to cut each steak in half. She asked me to cook the fish sinigang style, and it made me giggle a bit because she specifically asked for a "delicious sinigang" - not too sour has salt. For this, I used the Knorr sinigang sa miso mix, and I am happy that she was satisfied with my dish.

One week of great delicious foods! My tummy is such a spoiled brat, hahaha! Next week, my entries would be more concise, I promise. :)

Jenn, the Foodie

I come from a family who loves cooking and eating. I never had any formal training in cooking and that I taught myself how to cook based on the handed down recipes, but I could say that I can cook good food. In 2008, I started documenting my food trips for my travel blog, and since I have quite enough to start a food blog, might as well put all those food trips in one location. Thus, a food blog is born - thanks to the new Friendster Blogs. However, due to several problems, I was left with no choice but to pack bags again and move here instead. Here's the permanent address, promise! Enough talk, let the food trippin' begin! {Know More About Me}
