Weekend Eating | New Year's Eve Party

Lechon
New Year's Party

I have been celebrating Media Noche for 31 years, but it was this year that we had lechon on our table. Well, if it's just us (mom, bro, sis, and I), a simple celebration would do, but because Aunt Bing's Canadian friend flew here to be with his fiancée, they all decided to have the party here and invite all relatives living in Metro Manila. The Canadian friend wanted to eat "the pig on a stick." As early as lunch time of New Year's eve, the lechon was already the center of the dinner table, and yes, I was drooling. :)

Something happened to me mid-afternoon that made me miss the actual start of the celebration (aside from the New Year's Day countdown, my cousin Jayson is also celebrating his birthday). When I got out of my room, the lechon was already carved and half of it was already missing. Needless to say, I wasn't able to pictures of the dishes on our table, but aside from the lechon we had:
  • Pinoy Spaghetti (using ground beef and hotdogs) - which I cooked
  • Beer-battered Cream Dory Fish with Mayo-Caper Sauce - which sister prepared, but did help her fry up the fish
  • Rellenong Bangus - something Aunt Bing brought here from Pangasinan
  • Suman with Coco Jam - something Aunt Bing's husband brought here from Pangasinan that morning
  • Fruits and Greens Salad (with Clara Ole Parmesan vinaigrette)
  • Nachos - something brother prepared
  • Surprise Bread (hors d' oeuvres - crackers topped with mixed cream cheese, sour cream, grated cheddar cheese, spicy seafood sauce, and bell peppers) - something Aunt Bing prepared
  • Cake - simple mocha cake by Goldilocks
  • Pine-Orange juice, wine, and beer

We all had a hearty dinner, but I felt sorta "wasted" by eating a lot. My fitness buddy (now boyfriend) was upset and hurt, but he just asked me not to forget my focus.

We didn't eat anything for Media Noche anymore, but I had a cup of hot coffee and my siblings, some neighbors, and cousins had some alcoholic drinks.

Jenn, the Foodie

I come from a family who loves cooking and eating. I never had any formal training in cooking and that I taught myself how to cook based on the handed down recipes, but I could say that I can cook good food. In 2008, I started documenting my food trips for my travel blog, and since I have quite enough to start a food blog, might as well put all those food trips in one location. Thus, a food blog is born - thanks to the new Friendster Blogs. However, due to several problems, I was left with no choice but to pack bags again and move here instead. Here's the permanent address, promise! Enough talk, let the food trippin' begin! {Know More About Me}
