Salmon Head Sinigang

Salmon Head Sinigang

We are very aware that salmon is one of those pricey kind of fish that we just can't afford. Whenever the cooking shows or even recipes in the magazines calls for salmon (steak cut), we could just stare at it and hope.

About a few months ago, we saw that the SM Supermarket sells salmon heads, and for 190/kilo at that time, we decided to buy one head, just to satisfy the curiosity, after all, it is salmon still. :) We cooked it the sinigang way and we just loved it! Bro and sis weren't into fish head sinigang, but tried it the first time. As time went on, it was just mom and I who were eating it. When the supermarket change its price to 220/kilo, we decided to stop buying it - little meat and more bones, it wasn't really practical.

While brother was in Cagayan de Oro two weeks ago, mom and I decided to buy just one salmon head because we missed eating it. I don't know what's in a fish head that I just love it a lot. Whenever we have big fish head, I always go for the eyes because it was just sooo good!

I don't know when we will eat this one again. Hopefully next week! :)

i have been thinking of doing the same thing to salmon head, but haven't tried it yet. my sister goes for the eyes, too... while i head for the cheek muscles. :P

ps. the tawilis on my post wasn't tuyo...it was prepared similar to sardines. it's usually available at the Lung Center market during the weekends (the fresh fish); found some bottled ones there, too.

thanks! enjoy the long weekend!

I love sinigang but salmon? Not that much. If I do ever eat a fish, I go for the body. :)

Argh, now I suddenly want to have sinigang (beef or pork) for dinner. :|

this is one of my favorite sinigang for fish aside from mayamaya. salmon is available in our market, head, or belly. try the salmon belly, best for sinigang.

Jenn, the Foodie

I come from a family who loves cooking and eating. I never had any formal training in cooking and that I taught myself how to cook based on the handed down recipes, but I could say that I can cook good food. In 2008, I started documenting my food trips for my travel blog, and since I have quite enough to start a food blog, might as well put all those food trips in one location. Thus, a food blog is born - thanks to the new Friendster Blogs. However, due to several problems, I was left with no choice but to pack bags again and move here instead. Here's the permanent address, promise! Enough talk, let the food trippin' begin! {Know More About Me}
